The hidden costs of automated tax platforms.
The Spanish Tax Administration is relentless with formal errors. By delegating your registration to automated apps that don’t audit your specific case, you expose yourself to severe legal and financial consequences.
Losing the Flat Rate (Tarifa Plana)
Failing to synchronize dates between the Tax Agency and Social Security, or missing the «Zero Quota» checkboxes, forces you to pay the maximum monthly fee from day one, with no retroactive fixes.
Fiscal Domicile Risks
Registering 100% of your home for business triggers Tax Agency alarms and commercial-rate municipal garbage taxes. Calculating the exact and legal percentage (maximum 15%) is strictly imperative.
IAE Activity Code Errors
Choosing a VAT-exempt activity code incorrectly will force you to apply the «Prorrata» rule, preventing you from deducting VAT on computers, software, or rent, losing thousands of euros annually.
Involuntary VIES Fraud
Registering in the VIES (EU Operators Registry) «just in case» will trigger a tax inspector visit to your home to verify business viability. It must only be activated after a proper technical analysis.
Loss of Previous Deductions
Expenses incurred before your official start date (buying computers, furniture, renovations) are not deductible unless a specific prior purchase registration is filed. A very expensive mistake to make.
Unemployment Incompatibility
Registering as a freelancer without previously requesting your Accumulated Unemployment Benefits as a single payment (Pago Único) completely nullifies your right to collect that money for your business.
What we review before processing your setup.
The foundation of a solid business begins with a millimeter-precise legal configuration. This is what our technical team verifies before sending your data to the Administration.
We ensure you pay the legal minimum from day one
We review your labor history prior to registration so you don’t pay a single euro more than legally required.
We check the Social Security databases to ensure you meet the grace period requirements. We activate your national Flat Rate (Tarifa Plana) and, if your Autonomous Community allows it, we manage the total exemption (Zero Quota) for your first year.
With the new real-income contribution system, estimating your net earnings correctly is vital. We adjust your initial bracket to prevent Social Security from charging you surprise regularizations the following year.
If you have accumulated Spanish unemployment benefits, we guide you through requesting the single payment (Pago Único) to finance your initial investments, ensuring it is filed strictly before signing your official freelancer setup.
We don’t abandon you after setup. We monitor your income throughout your first year to request the extension of the Flat Rate for an additional 12 months if your net earnings do not exceed the Minimum Wage (SMI).
What we register at the Tax Agency dictates your taxes all year
Certain decisions are made only once and carry consequences for years. There is no room for trial and error here.
Every activity has a code in the Tax Agency (IAE). Choosing the wrong one can prevent you from deducting VAT on your laptop, software, or office. We select the one that benefits you most while staying fully compliant.
If you are a professional freelancer, we activate your right to withhold only 7% IRPF (instead of the standard 15%) during the year you register and the following two years, injecting extra monthly liquidity into your bank account.
We study your business model. If you plan to invoice European clients or buy VAT-exempt software (Google, Adobe), we request your inclusion in the ROI, attaching the technical report so the Tax Agency doesn’t reject it.
We legally configure the square meters of your home you will use for work, allowing you to deduct a percentage of your utilities, and we correctly register your business expenses made prior to the official start date.

Common questions before starting
Normal doubts for anyone taking the leap for the first time in Spain.
Yes. There is a lot of misinformation regarding this. Spanish jurisprudence indicates that the requirement for Social Security registration is the «habituality» of the activity, not the income. If you open an online store or provide periodic services, you must be registered. Working without registration carries real financial risks — and when an inspection arrives, there is no going back.
The Digital Certificate is your legal electronic signature in Spain. As a freelancer (autónomo), you are legally required to communicate electronically with the Public Administration. If you don’t have one, we explain how to get it, or we can act directly on your behalf with your official authorization.
It is not necessary to declare a commercial location. You must declare the partial allocation of your primary residence (usually a room or home office). The Tax Agency allows you to allocate a legal maximum to deduct a small proportional part of utilities (electricity, internet). We calculate the correct percentage so you can deduct it without risk.
Once we have your DNI/NIE and the initial diagnostic is approved, the electronic submission is immediate. However, Social Security and the Tax Agency usually take between 24 and 48 business hours to cross-reference data and issue the final official registration resolution. We will always recommend the exact optimal day of the month to process it.
Yes. From the moment we submit form 036 to the Tax Agency establishing your business start date, you are legally authorized to issue invoices and charge the corresponding VAT to your clients.
Registering with the Tax Agency and Social Security has no official government fee — neither for the setup nor for adding or modifying activities. What has a cost is doing it right. An error in the activity code, dates, or bonuses can cost you much more than any agency fee. In our first free consultation, we explain exactly what the service includes and how much it costs, no surprises.
It is more common than it seems and it can be fixed. The important thing now is to regularize the situation as soon as possible, because time works against you: the longer you wait, the greater the exposure to surcharges and inspections. In our free initial consultation, we analyze your specific case, explain your real situation, and propose the best path to regularize it at the lowest possible cost.
Yes, it is perfectly legal and very common. It is called «pluriactivity» and has its own rules: you contribute to both systems, but the law provides specific bonuses to reduce what you pay to Social Security. We analyze your specific situation so you can start your business activity without overpaying and without affecting your current job.
